Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character”. Equality can be defined in many different ways to those who it means the most to. Although, today in some parts of the country most people are declined their equality rights. My definition of equality would be not treating people the same, but the outcome of being the same. Equality of outcome can be achieved by making sure that everyone is supported to have access to resources and decision making and to be recognized, valued and respected.
Equality should not be only as a treatment under law, because racism still exists in some parts of the country. Many people fought for our country and to some it is like they never existed, when they made a change to some Americans. I believe equality should be extended to other thing, such as jobs and college admission. The color of my skin does not determine the person I am. I have been told by many teachers that I am a bright student, but will them saying that to college admissions change their decision on behalf of my enrollment. I do not think so. Also for a work place for example, at my cousins job people will do anything so other people outside of their nationality would not get hired. They will make them feel uncomfortable to work there. Many people are lazy workers and when somebody is hard working they take that out of consideration to get someone who they like and probably would not get the same energy as for someone who wanted the job.
Many people are so judgmental based on the color of your skin, the clothes you wear, the religion you choose to follow, and many more. It is sad that we cannot be treated equal when we live in America.
